It's a date!

Holy Cow!

I have not updated this blog since May 20th! Poor little neglected blog.  Well, life has been keeping me busy.  So what's been going on?

First of all, over the past several months I've been working really hard at getting my positivity level up and keeping it that way.  It's been hard, but the longer I keep it up, the easier it is getting.  And you know what?  I changed my attitude for the positive and my life started to change for the positive....imagine that!  It's a simple concept, but hard to implement when you're in the thick of challenges.

My new outlook...most of the time. :)

I've made some major changes recently.  The biggest one: I'm switching careers...again.  My last day in the classroom will be this Friday.  It's bittersweet, but financially the best thing for my kids and me.  I will be going back to the environmental world, but in a regulator role instead of a consultant role.  I'm nervous, but excited.  I'll miss a lot of things about teaching, but the paltry paycheck definitely isn't one of them.

As for running.  I've been trying to keep going even though it's wicked hot.  Summers in AZ mean LOTS of miles on the dreadmill.  I have the most available time to run in the afternoons/evenings, so outside just won't do.  It's boring for sure, but Netflix on my iphone has made all the difference.  Waiting for things to start cooling down again so I can hit the streets.

So what's on the running agenda?  Well, the calendar is shaping up like this:

October 6:  The Arizona Half.  Part of the Hometown Race Series and in my neck of the woods.

October 13:  The Cactus Cha Cha Trail Run (the 7 miler).  An annual tradition for my girlfriends and me.

November 4:  Lady Speed Stick Women's Half Marathon, Scottsdale/Tempe.  Loved this race last year!  And look at this medal! (Because it's all about the medal, right?)

December 2:  Rock 'n Roll Las Vegas.  Sigh....I was part of the cluster that was RnR Vegas 2011.  I went back and forth about doing it again.  But decided I'd give them another chance.  Just going into it with a different race goal this time.  And if they screw it up this time...peace out.

January 20, 2013.  Rock 'n Roll Arizona.  Tackling the full again.  Since I did decently last year, even though I didn't train like I should of, I'm curious what I'm really capable of.  So of course I have to do it again!

February 22-23, 2013:  Ragnar del Sol. Last year was my first Ragnar.  And it was THE MOST fun I've ever had running.  Our van was awesome.  The best group ever.  And we're getting the team back together to do it again.

I'm also toying with the idea of the Lost Dutchman 1/2 marathon on Feb 17th and a sprint triathlon over Thanksgiving (if I can find time to get back on the bike and in the pool).

I'm excited to get the season going.  My goals for the season are to finally break that 2 hour mark in the 1/2 (I'm so close...PR is 2:02!) and get under 4:30 for the full.  Other than that, I just want to have fun and stay healthy

What's on your calendar?

  1. WOW sorry you have to change careers! Sounds like you have a good roadmap for your races! For me I have only signed up for RnR 1/2 in San Diego June 2013. I should probably commit to more, have to figure the whole training program including nutrition 1st.
